Directions –

M6 south to J23, turn right onto East Lancs Road A580 towards Liverpool. At the third set of lights after 3.5 miles turn right then right again into Toby car park.


Meet in the car park at !0.30am. Order and pay for food for 11.00am start.

The car park is pay and display but FREE if you give your reg’ number in at the Toby.


The walk is approximately 4.5 miles along pathways and tracks around Carr Mill Dam and then down Sankey valley before returning to Toby.

No stiles and just a few slight inclines but mostly flat.

Back at around usual time for lunch


Don’t forget to register you Car at the Toby even if not staying after walk

Directions:-

From M61 J6 take A6027 signed Chorley, at next roundabout turn right to take the A6 Chorley for about ¾ mile. At the lights bear left onto Manchester Road B5408 towards Blackrod then in 100mtrs turn left onto Scot Lane B5238 towards Aspull.

After just over 1 mile turn right at first mini roundabout, onto Haigh Road B5239. At about ¾ mile the pub is in front of you on the bend.


From M6 J27 take A5209 (Standish) then at T junction turn left, at 1mile (Standish traffic lights) take left hand lane and continue straight across, 400 metres after passing under bridge turn right at mini roundabout, then at next mini roundabout left onto B5239 (Haigh) at 1 mile (sharp LH bend) continue straight ahead onto a narrow lane (Haigh Woodland Park) continue for 1.2 miles to the end, the pub is on your left.


The walk will start at 11:00am and return for Lunch at 1:30 to 1:45pm. The distance is about 4.8 miles, no stiles, generally good underfoot.

Please order and pay for the food before the walk at 10.30am.


The route will be via  the canal tow path, after Top Lock it's down hill passing 24 locks to Wigan Pier, then proceed to the bus station and return by bus to Haigh Rd, then walk 300mtrs to the pub.


The pace will be moderate and continuous, stopping half way for the usual break.


The return trip including the walk will take approx 25 mins. With single deck buses every 15 mins from stand R.

If we all can't get on the same bus then you will need to ask to get off at the      (Haigh Rd stop) which is at the far end of St David's Crescent, Haigh.


Don't forget your bus pass.


Anyone wishing to use cars for the return journey could find parking in Heritage Way close to were we leave the canal system.

Lots of options possible around Haigh Hall plantations and the canal no stiles.
